Origins / The system worked. The business did not.
ACTORS and CREW
Formidable technical execution was insufficient because the reachable market and acquisition system had not been understood with equal precision.
What was supposed to become true?
Create a working professional network where entertainment people could form relationships, find opportunities, submit work, publish and exchange value.

The conditions
David and his brother built ACTORS and CREW over several years, largely during evenings and weekends while David also worked full-time. The ambition was not a brochure site. It was a functioning network and employment system for entertainment professionals.
The platform required custom infrastructure, media handling, professional profiles, relationships, opportunities, submissions, publishing and member exchange. David and his brother built the servers and a substantial mod_perl application compiled into Apache when both hosting and specialist technical capability were scarce.
The system could function and still fail. The consequential gap was commercial: the builders did not yet understand the reachable market or possess today’s mechanisms for precise acquisition, feedback and conversion.
What had to exist
ACTORS and CREW joined infrastructure, software, media, professional identity, opportunity exchange, publishing and community. Later work explored conversational acquisition through a documented Pandorabots/AIML discussion.

David’s role
David was a co-builder and operator. His work crossed product conception, infrastructure, software, publishing, community and the later effort to make the company commercially viable.
